Position: Head of Trading
Institution: New Reinsurance Company Ltd.
Location: Zürich, Switzerland
Duties: Lead all deals for the Zurich balance sheet through the various stages of pricing, hedging, execution, and management, with a focus on client deal execution, portfolio valuation and proper risk management; Up to assigned underwriting and acceptance authority, take ownership and responsibility for deal execution (incl. commercial decision making) against the group’s global portfolio and business plan; Develop trading positions that impact organization’s earnings and portfolio optimization; Provide daily market intelligence information (e.g. identifying buyers and sellers at various locations, recording market prices being transacted, and presenting data to others.)
Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s degree preferred ideally in a quantitative discipline; 10+ years of trading-related experience in the weather and commodity market; In-depth knowledge of weather and energy; Proficient knowledge of energy derivatives including commodity futures, options and swaps; Possess a superior understanding of risk/reward analysis techniques; Understanding of hedging and price forecasting instruments, such as derivatives, futures, options, OTC, and various credit instruments; Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (additional languages such as German would be a plus)
   
Text: Head of Trading We are looking for a senior expert who wants to be responsible for executing weather and weather & commodity transactions with our clients and secondary markets. Primary focus of activities is to support the execution of client business and to guide the building the portfolio each season. You will plan, coordinate, perform and direct financial and statistical activities for executing weather and energy commodity derivatives and (re-)insurance, including responsibility for daily position pricing, position management and trade dispute resolution. To perform in-depth functional and technical research you will use advanced economic, financial and statistical data to generate and support trade ideas, including development of proprietary models to analyse risk. Responsible for following and managing the global weather portfolio (~600-800m USD notional). Performs in-depth functional and technical research using economic and statistical data to generate and support deal-hedge and trade ideas Understands the importance of measuring, managing and reporting risk Detects trends, associations, and cause and effect outcomes Maintain trading practices within guidelines and ethical standards Understand the importance of measuring, managing and reporting risk Embed optionality to reduce exposure in individual transactions as well as on a portfolio level Interpret financial information and integrate information from a variety of sources Develop credible and effective relationships with internal and external parties Extract relevant market intelligence Analyze and adapt to multiple and changing market conditions to take advantage of market volatility Understanding the current and changing market environment and how it will impact the execution of the business plan Understanding and solving client problems to create business Active origination of deals through the traded broker market (CME, etc.) Act as Deputy for the Head of Weather & Agro Zurich, incl. representation of the business towards top management (Board of Management, Board of Directors, Munich Re Business Unit Head, Risk Management) Your profile Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s degree preferred ideally in a quantitative discipline 10 years of trading-related experience in the weather and commodity market In-depth knowledge of weather and energy Proficient knowledge of energy derivatives including commodity futures, options and swaps Possess a superior understanding of risk/reward analysis techniques Understanding of hedging and price forecasting instruments, such as derivatives, futures, options, OTC, and various credit instruments Understanding of NPV, value creation, and embedding optionality into deal structures to reduce exposure Knowledge of market direction, trading strategies, trading fundamentals, global markets, arbitrage, and abreast of international events and geo-political climate Strong technical and analytical skills Prior management experience Ability to travel including spend significant time in sister offices in Munich and Houston Ability and willingness to support origination with client visits and interaction Existing relationships in the European energy market Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (additional languages such as German would be a plus) Inspiring team leader and player Ability to influence, to think creatively and to drive new solutions Confident, engaging manner and strong negotiation skills Capacity to deal positively with ambiguity and conflict Good business planning skills Very good project management skills Our common benefits NewRe stands for intelligent reinsurance solutions.
