Position: Scientific assistant: Modelling river water temperatures

Duties: The focus of the position is on the numerical simulation of the spatio-temporal variability of temperature in rivers downstream of hydropower plants. An existing numerical model will be applied to case studies where river temperatures are significantly affected by hydro- and thermopeaking. Stream temperature data are available via an ongoing collaboration with ZHAW Wädenswil by means of remote sensing. The effects of different hydropower management options should be simulated and assessed, also in combination with future climate scenarios
Requirements: Applicants should have an earned MSc degree in a relevant field of physics, environmental science or engineering, a strong background in numerical modelling, and a strong interest in river ecology and collaborative applied research
