Position: Researcher on Interactions between Fisheries and Protected, Endangered and Threatened Species

Duties: The research tasks will focus on i) adaptation of fishing gear to avoid depredation of seals and bycatch of PETS, and ii) monitoring of bycatch of PETS in fishing gear. The position includes collaboration with fishermen, stakeholder organizations, management bodies and national and international research institutions. We are looking for an innovative person, preferably a biologist specialised in interactions between PETS and fisheries, with good interpersonal skills, a committed and positive attitude, and the ability to work in a team as well as independently

Apply online Applications are invited for a position as researcher with emphasis on research and advice in relation to interactions between fisheries and protected, endangered and threatened species (PETS). The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position. The researcher will join the research group working with ecosystem effects of fishing and their management. The group is embedded in "Section for Ecosystem Based Marine Management" in Lyngby, The section has 35 employees and focuses on interdisciplinary research improving our understanding of marine ecosystems and how they are managed. It offers an internationally recognised and highly dynamic scientific environment. Responsibilities and tasks The research tasks will focus on i) adaptation of fishing gear to avoid depredation of seals and bycatch of PETS, and ii) monitoring of bycatch of PETS in fishing gear. The position includes collaboration with fishermen, stakeholder organizations, management bodies and national and international research institutions. We are looking for an innovative person, preferably a biologist specialised in interactions between PETS and fisheries, with good interpersonal skills, a committed and positive attitude, and the ability to work in a team as well as independently. The successful applicant will engage in our existing extensive international collaboration with other research institutions as well as fisher's organisations. Important tasks include the development of new research and management projects, publication of results in peer reviewed scientific journals, popular Danish, Swedish or Norwegian journals and technical reports, and innovation in fisheries technology and management to reduce conflicts between fisheries and PETS in collaboration with fishers and other stakeholders. Qualifications Candidates should hold a PhD degree or equivalent and have experience in interactions between fisheries and PETS equivalent to a minimum of 2 years postdoc. The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position. After a maximum of 4 years, a researcher can be promoted to a senior researcher position after assessment.
