Apply online The division of Geodesy at DTU Space, Technical University of Denmark advertises a fully funded 3-year PhD position (expected to start on 1 August 2019 or as soon as possible) to process and analyze GNSS data from Denmark and Greenland to improve 3D bedrock uplift models due to past and present ice variability. Over the past decade, DTU Space has established itself as a world leader in research and applications involving e.g. the ice sheet and glacier mass changes, climate change, sea level rise. One of our core activities is to model and observe land uplift due to past and present-day ice sheet mass changes. The PhD Student will focus on surface deformation from GPS, which is central to DTU Space’s strategic effort in the area of geodesy. The PhD Student will be attached to the new merged division of geodesy and geodynamic, which is one of the six divisions comprising DTU Space. Responsibilities and tasks The candidate is expected to perform original research that aims at improving our understanding of 3D surface displacements of the solid earth due to past and present-day ice variability. The candidate is expected to: Process GNSS data from permanent GNSS stations located in Denmark and Greenland using state-of-art processing software e.g. GIPSY, BERNESE. Analyze reflected GPS signals from selected GPS sites on the Greenland ice sheet. Combine the various satellite altimetry datasets to improve mass loss estimates in time and space. Analyze 3D surface displacements of the solid earth due to present-day ice loss. Help modeling elastic displacements due to present-day ice loss. Qualifications Candidates should have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.
