Position: Epidemiologist/Statistician

Duties: Collaborate with epidemiologists and statisticians to address pertinent research questions, including the real-world effectiveness of healthcare intervention in Sub-Saharan Africa; Support teams in managing and optimizing large observational databases; Contribute to the identification of relevant empirical data through systematic reviews; Contribute to pre-model data analysis in collaboration with other statisticians; Communicate results through presentations and scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals; Contribution to post-graduate teaching (possible but not required)
Requirements: Applicants should have a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. statistics, computer science, mathematics); An interest in applied research in the areas of epidemiology, biostatistics and HIV; Expertise and experience in statistical analysis and programming techniques, preferably in Stata and/or R; Experience in managing and cleaning databases, knowledge of relevant programming languages for software packages; Excellent knowledge of English (knowledge of German or French would be an advantage)
   
Text: The Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM), University of Bern, employs over 100 staff, provides undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and carries out research in a range of disciplines relevant to clinical epidemiology and public health. University of Bern, Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine, Mittelstrasse 43, 3012 Bern, Switzerland, www.ispm.unibe.ch We have a vacant position as Epidemiologist/Statistician (80-100%) to contribute to projects about the scale up of antiretroviral therapy in sub-Saharan Africa, including the spread of drug resistance to HIV and tuberculosis, the delivery of differentiated health care models, and the correction of mortality estimates through tracing of patients lost to follow-up. The projects are funded by the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
