Duties: You will work on the fundamental understanding of the transport behaviour of strongly sorbing radioelements in the confined pore network of compacted clay minerals within the European Joint Program Eurad. for your investigations you will apply different experimental approaches comprising the design and execution of macroscopic radionuclide diffusion experiments with representative clay mineral model systems. These tests will be accompanied by synchrotron based X-Ray microscopic or spectroscopic investigations in order to assess the binding states of the radioelements. The aim is to correlate the macroscopic transport properties of the cations with the observed structural characteristics. The results will help to discriminate on a fundamental point of level between different processes seen as a possible reason for enhanced cation diffusion rates. Your working location will be at PSI, however, you will possibly also travel to other synchrotron facilities for the X-Ray based measurements. You will communicate your scientific results in peer-reviewed journals, workshops and conferences
Requirements: You are a highly-motivated individual with good communication skills and easily adaptable to different working environments. You hold a Master degree/Diploma in chemistry, earth or environmental sciences or related field.
