Duties: The postholder will be responsible for depositing compound semiconductor material using MBE. They will lead on the development and growth of III-V based and Si-based optoelectronic devices, including quantum (QD) lasers, SOA, modulator etc. In addition they will lead on the installation and operation of new III-V MBE reactor and on operating and maintaining the MBE facility regularly. The postholder will be expected to regularly communicate and work in close collaboration with the post supervisor and national and international collaborators as well as interact with other researches working on the project. They will be required to publish research in leading journals and present it at national and international conferences as well as contributing to the preparation of reports and the presentation of results at progress meetings
Requirements: Applicants should have a PhD in the relevant area of physical sciences or engineering as well as a first degree in theoretical physics, applied mathematics, materials sciences or electrical engineering. Also essential is strong experience on the operation and maintenance of III-V solid-source MBE facility and on the heteroepitaxial growth of III-V on Si and QD lasers. The successful candidate should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a commitment to high quality research

This project is a collaboration with the University of Cardiff, University of Manchester and the University of Sheffield. The postholder will be part of the Photonics Group and will work with Professor Huiyun Liu with the state-of-the-art group IV and III-V Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) facility in the Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering and advanced device-processing facilities in the London Centre for Nanotechnology. This £10M grant hub project, funded by the EPSRC , will research into large scale Compound Semiconductor manufacturing and in manufacturing integrated Compound Semiconductors on Silicon.
