Duties: Research and development of the energy conversion processes of electronically produced liquid and gaseous fuels (e-fuel) for the aviation and aerospace industry; Setting up and commissioning a measuring device for coupling a shock tube to a laser-based system (tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS)); Developing corresponding signal processing software; Performing and assessing experiments, e. g. using analytical methods based on laser spectroscopy; Developing, improving and validating chemical kinetic reaction mechanisms; Reducing the measurement uncertainties by optimizing the measurement and analysis procedures
Requirements: You have completed university studies (German Diplom or master's) in the field of aviation and aerospace technology, mechanical engineering, process engineering, or in a comparable subject. Prerequisite are knowledge and practical experience, preferably in several of the following fields: Chemical combustion processes under gas turbine conditions; Shock tubes; Burners; Laser diagnostics; Mass spectrometry. You are interested in experimental work and in computer simulations Knowledge of the software programs Matlab, Cantera/Chemkin and Labview are of advantage. Scientific publications and participating in national and international conferences in the above-mentioned fields of task or thematic fields are of advantage. You are willing to travel occasionally (for several weeks) within Germany as well as abroad within the scope of your assignment. You have excellent communication skills and are a team player. You are interested in carrying out scientific work independently. You have an accurate and well-structured working style as well as good organizational skills. You have a good command of scientific and technical English, both spoken and written

June 2019 The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the National Metrology Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical service tasks. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, the economy and science. Department 3.3 "Physical Chemistry" of Division 3 is looking for a doctoral candidate in the field of aviation and aerospace technology, mechanical engineering, process engineering, or in a comparable subject to join us as of 1 September 2019. This position is available on the basis of a 3-year fixed-term contract. You will be employed at our Braunschweig site. The remuneration will be paid in accordance with remuneration group 13 TVöD Bund (85 %).
