Position: Doctoral candidate specializing in optical coordinate metrology
Institution: Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt
Department: Department 5.3, "Coordinate Metrology"
Location: Braunschweig, Niedersachsen, Germany
Duties: Investigating the interaction between the light and the surface occurring in the different measurement principles used, and assessing the impact of this interaction on optical measurements for real surfaces. Designing, realizing and testing suitable reference objects (color, reflectivity, roughness, geometry (in particular surface sloping)). Simulating the test piece influence for selected measurement principles. Investigating possibilities to correct the influence (in particular influence due to the geometry of the test piece)
Requirements: You have completed university studies of mechanical engineering, geodesy, physics or applied optics or photonics. Ideally, you are familiar with the field of coordinate metrology and/or optics. You have a good understanding of physics as well as experimental and technical skills. You have excellent communication skills and are a team player. You are highly committed, capable of working autonomously and willing to improve your skills. Text: Doctoral candidate specializing in optical coordinate metrology (19-060-5) Tuesday, 28. May 2019 The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the National Metrology Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical service tasks. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, the economy and science. In Department 5.3, "Coordinate Metrology", we are looking for a doctoral candidate specializing in optical coordinate metrology to join us as soon as possible. This position is available on the basis of a 3-year fixed-term contract. You will be employed at our Braunschweig site. The remuneration will be paid in accordance with remuneration group 13 TVöD Bund (85 %). The tasks encompass detailed investigations and characterizations of influences of the measurement object (e.g. surface properties, geometry) on optical coordinate measurements using different measurement principles (e.g. triangulation, white-light interferometry). The aim of this work is to determine the uncertainty contributions and the measurement uncertainty of optical coordinate measurements for specified measurement tasks as well as reproducible, standardized acceptance and reverification tests.
