About the department The Hevesy Laboratory is a radiochemical and radiopharmaceutical division within the Center for Nuclear Technologies (DTU Nutech), with about 45 employees About 15 employees work in the Section for Radioecology of the Hevesy laboratory. The activities in the section covers research on development of radio analytical methods, characterization of nuclear waste, radioactivity in marine and terrestrial environments, monitoring program and risk assessment of environmental radioactivity, public-sector consultancy. Project description As a PhD candidate, you will enter the research program at the Hevesy Laboratory, where you will join the effort to: Develop analytical method for determining cosmogenic 35 S in air and water. Develop analytical method for determining cosmogenic 22 Na in air and water. Develop method for sensitive coincidence counting of 22 Na by gamma-gamma or beta-gamma spectrometry. Study of the annual variation of 35 S and 22 Na in air and rain. Develop a field -based method for extraction of 35 S and 22 Na from natural waters. Qualifications Applicants should have (or be about to obtain) a master degree in chemistry or physics with professional background and experience within one or more of the following fields: Radio analytical chemistry Nuclear analytical techniques (alpha, beta, gamma and liquid scintillation counter) and applications Environmental chemistry Atmospheric chemistry Radiation physics Atmospheric physics Analytical chemistry Applicants should be diligent, talented, and able to communicate scientific results in English both orally and in writing. He/she must be able to work both in a team and individually. A preferred applicant has a genuine interest in academic research and is highly motivated towards developing new technology and making scientific breakthroughs.
