Apply online Staining of cells is central for analysis of for instance blood cells. In this Innovation fund project, we seek robust and commercially viable solutions to stain blood cell very fast in a fully automated fashion. The lab automation will be obtained via microfluidics in order to minimize time of interaction between the cells and the staining solution. As the target tissue is blood, sample preparation such as lysis of red blood cell is going to be included in the solution. We expect to do the system level prototyping using 3D printed pumps, valves and fluidics chips controlled by a user-friendly software. We are looking for generic solutions for microfluidic lab automation that can directly be used to automate cell staining as well as complicated assays such as in situ hybridisations and digital ELISA. The solution will be interfaced with optical sensor systems in order to detect the stained cells. The two-year postdoc is part of an Innovation Fund project. The partners are Radiometer, Technical University of Denmark (Department of Health Technology) and Hospital of North Zeeland. It is expected that the successful candidate has excellent collaborative skills and have the ability to work in a dynamic group environment. Responsibilities and tasks The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of the microfluidics prototype to stain cell rapidly. Fulfil milestones and deliverables in a timely manner to support the overall project. Spread successful microfluidics solutions through collaborations within the consortia and through research networks. Qualifications Candidates must have a PhD within the field of microfluidics, preferably including 3D printing and cell handling and optical analysis. Skills to control and program stepper motors are desirable. Cell culture experience is preferable but not a requirement.
