Position: Trainee - Orbit Response Measurement for Beam Position Monitors Calibration
Institution: Paul Scherrer Institut
Location: Villigen, Aargau, Switzerland
Duties: Beam Position Monitors (BPMs) are used to determine the transverse position, but the 8PM signal has only been pre-calculated before installation in the SwissFEL beamline. lt still requires a dedicated machine study to compare the theoretical orbit oscillation with the measurement to improve upon the resolution. The model dependent prediction can be cross-checked with a few BPMs, which has been calibrated by external movers independently, and then extrapolated over the entire machine. Your task is to develop the measurement routine, carry out the measurement during machine development shifts and supply the BPM-group with the correct calibration factors
Requirements: Student in physics and you are at least in your penultimate year of master studies. Interest in experimental measurements as well as in simulations. Open-minded person, communicative, and you enjoy working in an international team
