Position: Chief Flight Instructor

Duties: Supervise all employees based at the Springbank hangar. Develop and oversee documentation, handbooks, and manuals. Oversee serviceability and functionality of flight operations facilities and equipment. Collaborate with the Chair on current and future fleet requirements. Collaborate on, and coordinate contracts with external suppliers. Oversee purchasing and maintenance of hangar supplies and equipment. Collaborate on the Aviation Department budgetary issues with the Chair. Liaise with Transport Canada, NavCanada, CYBW Tower, and other official agencies as required. Prepare for and coordinate Jazz, Porter, AABI, Transport Canada audits. Supervise aviation staff
Requirements: Aviation diploma in combination with three (3) years’ management experience leading a group of flight instructors. Class 1 or Class 2 Flight Instructor Rating for the category of aircraft. Valid Group 1 Instrument Rating. Experience in teaching ground school in a post-secondary Aviation Program or Accredited Flight Training Unit. Safety record satisfactory to Mount Royal in its sole discretion with no aviation accidents or CARs violations in the past three (3) years. Meet all minimum qualification in accordance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CAR). Flight Test Record satisfactory to Mount Royal in its sole discretion. Demonstrate strong communication, team work, customer service, time management, and scheduling skills

Mount Royal has carved out a distinct niche by offering smaller class sizes, a robust liberal education and unique undergraduate programs. Currently, nearly 14,000 credit students choose from 12 bachelor degrees and 32 majors. About the Department of Aviation Mount Royal University’s Aviation diploma program has been in operation since 1970. The two-year program operates eight aircraft at Springbank Airport along with three simulators. Students enter the program with a Private Pilot License and graduate with a Commercial Pilot License and Multi-IFR in addition to a Diploma in Aviation. About the Role Reporting to the Chair, the Chief Flight Instructor (CFI) is responsible for the management of flight operations for the Aviation Department's Pilot Training Program. The incumbent will provide leadership and guidance to flight instructors, hangar staff, and the Assistant Chief Flight Instructor. The CFI is the holder of the Transport Canada Flight Training Unit Operations Certificate and is responsible for the safe operation of the unit. The CFI is also responsible for the overall content and quality of the flight and ground instruction given to student pilots. Responsibilities Supervise all employees based at the Springbank hangar.
