Position: Research Assistant - Salt Reduction in the UK and China

Duties: Our aim is to develop, implement and evaluate nutrition policies with focus on salt reduction in Low- and Middle-Income Countries, particularly China and other Asia-Pacific Countries. You will be involved in a number of research projects on salt reduction in the UK and China. You will gain knowledge and research experiences in implementing strategies in reduction of salt, sugar and saturated fat, and building capacity and capability to develop, implement and evaluate nutrition policies focusing on salt reduction in LMICs. You will also enhance their knowledge on diet and health, and the strategies to improve the diet, e.g., reduce salt, sugar and saturated fat consumption in China for the prevention of non-communicable disease
Requirements: Applicants should hold a degree in Epidemiology or Public Health or a related discipline with demonstrated experience in computational and statistical analysis. Good communication skills in both English and Mandarin are essential

The SMD is a leading medical and dental school that offers international levels of excellence in research and teaching as well as providing clinical service for a population of unrivalled ethnic diversity in east London and the wider Thames Gateway. This exciting and unique role will provide an opportunity to be involved in a number of research projects on salt reduction in the UK and China. Particularly, the successful candidate will be highly involved in the NIHR Global Health Research Unit - Action on Salt China). The overall aim of the Unit is to develop, implement and evaluate nutrition policies with focus on salt reduction in Low- and Middle-Income Countries, particularly China and other Asia-Pacific Countries. The project is a collaboration between Queen Mary University of London and the George Institute China and several other Chinese organisations such as China CDC. The Unit (Director: Professor Graham MacGregor) is multi-disciplinary and focuses on evidence-based approaches to improve public health. The successful candidate will be involved in a number of research projects on salt reduction in the UK and China. The successful candidate will gain extensive and comprehensive knowledge and research experiences in implementing strategies in reduction of salt, sugar and saturated fat, and building capacity and capability to develop, implement and evaluate nutrition policies focusing on salt reduction in LMICs, especially in China. The candidate will also enhance their knowledge on diet and health, and the strategies to improve the diet, e.g., reduce salt, sugar and saturated fat consumption in China for the prevention of non-communicable disease. Applicants should hold a degree in Epidemiology or Public Health or a related discipline with demonstrated experience in computational and statistical analysis. The successful candidate will be pro-active and insightful, with excellent organisation skills, are able to use their initiative, as well as working in a team. The position is open to international applicants. The post is full-time and fixed term for the period of 18 months. Salary will be £31,054 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
