The University of Applied Sciences Aschaffenburg is a young and growing institution in the Rhine-Main metropolitan area and is frequently ranked among top teaching institutions. She combines practice-related academic teaching in the fields of engineering and business with conducting applied research on an international level. Applications are invited for a fixed-term position in the Faculty of Engineering as Research Associate Process Monitoring for Additive Manufacturing (supporting a PhD qualification or as a postdoctoral position) The project is currently available for two years with the potential for an extension to a third year of support. It is graded according to the Civil Service Payscale 75% TV-L (E13). For exceptionally qualified or successful employees there is the potential for additional employment. Reference pr-w-231b The development of specific process monitoring techniques for additive manufacturing, in particular for the selective laser melting (SLM) process, is currently a highly relevant and topical area in applied research and industry. The offered position is part of the public third-party funding project PromoAdd3D and aims at the integration, pre-processing and analysis of sensor and image data gained from experimental work. Suitable figures of merit and quality-related process parameters and signatures will be identified and used to predict the outcome of the building process. For that purpose, methods of machine learning and artificial intelligence will be combined with physical and process engineering modelling approaches in a joint framework. Your tasks: Scientific research and development of a physics-based and data-driven framework for process monitoring of the selective laser melting process. Interdisciplinary work at the intersections of physical, engineering and computer science topics Presentation of research results, scientific publications and talks Contributions towards the acquisition of further research funds and to enrich the scientific life of the research group. Employment requirements: Above average Master’s degree (or equivalent) in the fields of physics, engineering, process engineering computer science or applied mathematics High level of self-motivation, eagerness to learn, interdisciplinary scientific engagement Helpful but not formally required is previous training on the analysis of time-series data, any application of methods of machine learning and artificial intelligence, or the numerical simulation of laser-based processes Ability to directly interact professionally with colleagues working in experimental groups Fluently spoken and written English or German Our offer: Research on fascinating questions in technology development Possibility to acquire a collaborative PhD Intense collaboration with the experimental group „Angewandte Lasertechnik und Photonik“ (www.alp-aschaffenburg.de) and contacts with industries The University of Applied Sciences highly appreciates the applications of women. Handicapped people are asked to submit relevant formal proof (Schwerbehindertenausweis) and are given preference in the case of otherwise practically equal aptitude, qualifications and professional achievements. Research related questions are answered by Prof. Dr. Möckel, 06021/4206-507, michael.moeckel@th-ab.de. Interested? Then do not hesitate to apply presenting the usual documents (CV, copies of certificates, motivational letter of not more than two pages in German or English) and quoting the reference. Prospective start date is 1st of June 2019 or earlier if requested. Electronic applications are welcome but should contain all materials as a single pdf file (max 5 MB). Please submit your application to p-amt@th-ab.de. The closing date is 20th of April 2019. This English translation of the official job advertisement in German is a courtesy for applicants.
