The research project “Molecular Insight of Alginate Degradation by Human Gut Microbiota and Host Interplay” focuses on understanding degradation and utilization of alginate by gut microbiota and the specific impact on the host. You will have the following responsibilities: genome analysis of relevant bacteria for alginate specific polysaccharide utilization loci and other important genes; proteomic analysis of impact of alginate on gut bacterial cross-feeding; proteomics analysis of influence of bacterial alginate utilisation on host cells using a two-chamber anaerobic ! aerobic system; production of recombinant alginate utilizing enzymes and proteins and characterization of their structural and biochemical properties

Responsibilities and tasks The primary tasks of this project will be to identify gut bacteria degrading defined alginates by functional screening of microbiota. Furthermore you will have the following responsibilities Genome analysis of relevant bacteria for alginate specific polysaccharide utilization loci and other important genes. Proteomic analysis of impact of alginate on gut bacterial cross-feeding Proteomics analysis of influence of bacterial alginate utilisation on host cells using a two-chamber anaerobic ! aerobic system Production of recombinant alginate utilizing enzymes and proteins and characterization of their structural and biochemical properties Qualifications Candidates should have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.
