Duties: The project is part of the DFG framework SPP 1833 ‘Building a Habitable Earth’ and will contribute to a more detailed characterisation of the composition of the Early Earth’s mantle using state-of-the-art radiogenic and stable isotope systems on key rock samples from Archean terranes. Text: Doctoral (PhD) position Einrichtung: Department of Isotope Geology and Geochemistry (ID 100497) Ansprechpartner: Besetzungsdatum: ab sofort Veröffentlichungsdatum: 11.03.2019 The Department of Isotope Geology and Geochemistry at the Georg-August-University Göttingen is currently inviting applications for a Doctoral (PhD) position in Isotope Geochemistry This is a fixed-term position (for up to 3 years) with a starting date as soon as possible. Salary level will be in accordance with the German Tarifvertrag der Länder (TV-L), grade E13 (66 %). The project is part of the DFG framework SPP 1833 ‘Building a Habitable Earth’ and will contribute to a more detailed characterisation of the composition of the Early Earth’s mantle using state-of-the-art radiogenic and stable isotope systems on key rock samples from Archean terranes. As a PhD student at the Faculty of Geosciences and Geography you will be a member of the Georg-August University School of Science (GAUSS). Applications from abroad are explicitly welcome. The Department of Isotope Geology and Geochemistry comprises three international research groups with established links to national as well as international collaborators. The department houses state-of-the-art analytical facilities that are relevant to this project including MC-ICPMS (Neptune Plus), SF-ICPMS (Element2), Q-ICPMS (iCAP-Q), laser ablation (Resonetics Resolution), TIMS (Triton), XRF (Panalytical Axios Advanced), a new clean-room suite as well as laboratories for mechanical rock preparation (crushing, milling and mineral separation). We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements: - Excellent M.Sc. degree (or equivalent) in Earth Sciences or related fields - Strong background in isotope geochemistry - Scientific creativity, problem-solving capabilities and the ability to work independently - Motivation and ability to carry out field work in remote areas - Literacy in scientific writing - Very good English skills (written and spoken) Experience in using state-of-the-art mass spectrometric techniques (in particular MC-ICPMS, SF-ICPMS) and in working in a clean room laboratory environment is desirable.
