Duties: Developing a standardizable procedure for ignition tests in order to determine the safety-related parameters that are relevant for explosion protection; planning and carrying out experiments. Dealing with scientific issues regarding ignition processes and the progressing of the explosion. Evaluating and presenting the results within the project team and at conferences as well as in the form of written publications
Requirements: You have completed university studies (Master's or German Diplom) of chemistry with a focus on physical chemistry or studies of natural/engineering sciences with a focus on physical chemistry or safety engineering. You are familiar with safety-related issues in the field of explosion protection or with determining characteristics that are relevant for explosion protection. Preferably, you have experience in automating measuring arrangements (programming skills in LabView). You are interested in interdisciplinary issues. You are able to work independently; you are highly motivated and determined. You have excellent communication skills and are a team player. You have an excellent command of spoken and written German. You have a good command of spoken and written English. You are willing to travel for business purposes (project meetings, international conferences)

March 2019 The Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) is the National Metrology Institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with scientific and technical service tasks. It furthers progress and reliability in metrology for society, the economy and science. In Department 3.7, "Fundamentals of Explosion Protection", of Division 3, we are looking for a postdoc scientific collaborator or a doctoral candidate to join us as soon as possible. The postdoc position is available on the basis of a 2-year fixed-term contract, the doctoral candidate position on the basis of a 3-year fixed-term contract. You will be employed at our Braunschweig site. The remuneration will be paid in accordance with remuneration group 13 TVöD Bund for postdocs (85 % for doctoral candidates).
