Duties: We are searching for a highly skilled bioinformatician to support the EurOPDX consortium in their analysis of genomic and drug response data from Patient Derived Xenograft (PDX) models. PDX models are generated by the implantation of human tumor tissues or cells into severely immunodeficient mouse host strains are a versatile oncology research platform for studying tumor biology and for testing chemotherapeutic approaches. The EurOPDX has recently been funded by the EC to create a network of Europe’s leading cancer research institutes to coordinate production and research activities with PDX models
Requirements: The ideal candidate will have 3-years experience in bioinformatics and hold a postgraduate degree in Bioinformatics and related fields, although candidates with equivalent experience will also be considered. Experience: Solid skillset and experience in working in Bioinformatics. Practical knowledge of NGS algorithms and available resources for cancer bioinformatics. Performed comparisons between NGS data sets. Proficiency with handling large data sets and developing robust analysis pipelines. Willingness to undertake international travel and availability for US based teleconferences is essential for this post. Excellent interpersonal, communication and English skills are also essential as the role will involve liaising with other scientists at the EBI and from around the world

EMBL-EBI Mouse Informatics is building off recent successes in developing a cancer model platform (see Conte et al Nucleic Acids Research, Jan 2019) and has secured funding with the EurOPDX consortium to expand our team to harmonise, analyse and help disseminate the rich ‘Omics' and pphenotypical data from this world-leading cancer research consortium. This unique opportunity will provide the candidate unfettered access to unique datasets with direct relevance to human health while taking part in global collaborations and publishing in top-tier journals. The EMBL-EBI partner is responsible for developing standards, harmonising PDX-related data and developing analysis pipelines to feedback results the consortium partners and the wider cancer research community. The candidate will have the exciting opportunity to re-use, design and develop analyses pipeline to explore one of the fundamental problems of biology- how do our genes contribute to cancer ? The ideal candidate will have practical knowledge of NGS algorithms, demonstrable experience with commonly used cancer bioinformatics and strong programming skills (Python, R, Java, or equivalent). The candidate will be part of growing team that is contributing to the state-of-the-art for phenomics and will form global collaborations with peers in dedicated data analysis groups. The candidate will also frequently liaison with the biologists and clinicians that are part of the PDX communities and have the opportunity to present their work at international meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
