Position: Technical Work Manager (Technical Work Manager 3)

Duties: PF-LFS is seeking a motivated individual who is interested in serving as a Technical Work Manager with First Line Manager (FLM) responsibilities for daily operations of the PF-LFS machine shops. The selected candidate will report to the PF-LFS Group Leader and will work as an integral member of the group management team with oversight responsibility for the group’s six machine shops and management of the Machinist Pipeline Program (MPP), a New Mexico state certified journeyman machinist apprenticeship program. Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include but are not limited to the following: Work with the Group Leader to establish priorities and help manage the daily operations within the 6 PF-LFS machine shops and MPP; Represent group management to define and prioritize programmatic objectives for the machine shops; Allocate and coordinate resources and scheduling to include personnel, facilities, equipment, and investments to meet customer requirements; Participate in the development and implementation of strategic planning to ensure that customer requirements are satisfied; Monitor and provide summary reporting to the Group Leader for PF-LFS recharge revenue and cost collection performance on a weekly basis; Address personnel issues, and participate with the group management team in the development and implementation of performance plans for group personnel
Requirements: Minimum Job Requirements: Demonstrated knowledge and proven ability to successfully manage an operational envelope in a prototype machining environment with employees working at multiple facilities simultaneously with an emphasis on workflow control and planning, employee development, performance management, team building, goal setting, problem solving, and conflict resolution; Awareness and experience in working within established safety and quality controls for moderate hazard activities; including demonstrated experience performing hazard analysis, addressing/mitigating potential risk, developing and overseeing work processes and procedures to ensure a safe and robust operational posture; Demonstrated ability to make independent decisions and research, analyze, and solve complex problems; Demonstrated experience mentoring machinist pipeline students in a machine shop; Advanced experience and knowledge in regulatory compliance as it relates to a machine shop environment for such items as the environment, machine guarding, etc. as well as safe work execution within a prototype machining environment for multiple operations and facilities simultaneously; Ability to interpret complex drawings, sketches, and/or verbal instructions to effectively facilitate the most efficient method(s) for fabrication of parts and assemblies with a high degree of difficulty and tight tolerances, typically /- .0005; Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with personnel at all levels and across organizational boundaries at LANL; Excellent written and communication skills as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions and the cover letter; Record of commitment to safety, security, and environmental compliance in the workplace; Applicants must currently hold, or have the ability to obtain a Q clearance, which normally requires U.S. citizenship; Desired Skills: Demonstrated knowledge and professional level experience with manufacturing management information systems; Experience with CAD/CAM software, in particular Solidworks/Camworks; Conveys a positive outlook, is respectful in all interactions, and carries themselves as a professional representative of the group and division; Working knowledge of MS programs, such as MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint, etc; Demonstrated performance in advancing operational excellence and productivity thru the development and utilization of new technology and/or work processes; Experience with fabrication of various components in support of the Nuclear Weapons Program; Education: Accredited Journeyman Machinist qualification; Additionally, 15 years of experience as a Journeyman Machinist, with a minimum of 8 years supervising machine shop operations; Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation): Color discrimination, Peripheral vision, Depth perception, Reading vision, Distance vision, Ability to speak, Ability to discriminate speech, Ability to hear high-pitched sounds, Ability to smell, Ability to hear in a normal range (500 to 3000 htz), Sitting, Standing, Walking, Reaching horizontally, Reaching down, Typing or keyboarding, Use of both hands, Use of both arms, Use of both legs, Use of both feet, Lifting 5-10 pounds, Carrying 5-10 pounds.
