Duties: Florida A&M University (FAMU) and the Florida State University (FSU) College of Engineering seeks a visionary and accomplished academic and administrative leader as the Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). The Chair will oversee curriculum development, facility planning, and program implementation, serve as a mentor and evaluator of the faculty, and facilitate a collegial and productive work environment for a diverse group of faculty, staff and students. The chair is expected to lead the faculty and students in their quest for excellence in education and research and create a vision and long-term goals for the department. The Chair will work closely with the Industrial Advisory Board, building relationships with industrial supporters and alumni. The next CEE Chair will report to the Dean of the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering and work closely with the college's leadership team to further its goal of becoming a top 50 college of engineering. Current areas of the department include Environmental and Water Resources Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation and Construction Engineering. The next CEE Chair will be expected to partner with existing faculty to foster and advance research and education. The vision of the chair for the department and the ability to attract additional faculty are especially important. In the current College of Engineering's Strategic Plan, still evolving, the department plays a critical role in the cross-cutting areas of mobility in urban environments and resilient and sustainable infrastructure. The most recent annual report of the college (www.eng.famu.fsu.edu/research/report/) gives an overview of our strategy. The Department currently offers programs leading to the B.S., M.Eng, M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering. The undergraduate program is ABET accredited. The Department has 17 full-time faculty members and approximately 350 undergraduate students and 60 graduate students. Requirements: Applicants must hold a doctorate degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field and have an exemplary record of scholarly activities, a strong record of securing research funding, effective undergraduate and graduate student education, and experience in or aptitude for academic administration. Experience with multidisciplinary collaborations is valued. The successful candidate must have the creativity and ability to lead a faculty representing a diversified range of interests, and have a recognition for the importance and role of teaching in the context of a leading research-focused institution
