Duties: The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Florida State University (FSU) and the Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Engineering invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track faculty position in the area of sustainable infrastructure. This is one of seven strategic research areas identified by the college for future growth. Successful candidates should have strong multidisciplinary and innovative research and teaching background and capabilities, with expertise in one or more of these areas: green built environments, sustainability and resilience integration, energy and civil infrastructure, environmental impact modeling and risk assessment, renewable and innovative resources (energy, materials, etc.), livable and smart cities, sustainable transportation systems, and any other related areas. The FSU - FAMU College of Engineering is unique in combining two outstanding universities with overlapping but distinct missions - one of the nation’s ~100 Highest Research Activity Universities and the nation’s top Historically Black College/University . As such we provide an outstanding research and entrepreneurship-based education to one of the most diverse student populations in the US. The college offers the opportunity to work in a vibrant professional community and provides access to world-class universities and research centers. The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers programs leading to B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Civil Engineering. The undergraduate program is ABET accredited. The department has 17 full-time faculty members and approximately 450 undergraduate students and 60 graduate students. Current faculty members conduct sponsored research projects exceeding $2.4 million per year. Successful candidates are expected to collaborate with other researchers in the department and the college, and synergize with research centers such as the ASAP University Transportation Center, High Performance Materials Institute, Center for Advanced Power Systems, as well as many other centers at both FAMU and FSU campuses. We seek an outstanding scholar who has demonstrated leadership in engineering research; success in educating postgraduate and undergraduate students; ability to secure available research funding; and aptitude in working collaboratively across disciplinary boundaries.
