Position: Library Cafe Food & Beverage Assistant

Duties: As part of Hospitality and Accommodation Services (HAS), the Catering department offer a wide variety of outlets to staff, students and visitors across campus and in our student accommodation. These range from small coffee shops to large restaurants, as well as providing hospitality services for conferences and events held on campus. The post-holder will be responsible for providing excellent customer service in any one of those areas/outlets; This post will involve basic food preparation, the provision of a high quality food and beverage service, cash handling, cleaning and stock control, along with any other duties required to ensure the smooth running of the catering service we offer to our diverse range of customers
Requirements: Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience; Experience and knowledge of working in a busy, customer facing role is preferred, with previous experience of working in a food and beverage environment being particularly advantageous; A Level 2 Food Safety Certificate is desirable, however full training will be provided; It is essential that you have positive communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work on an individual basis or as part of a team environment; A smart appearance is required, however full uniform will be provided; Work patterns may vary so a flexible approach to working hours and days is essential; Planning and organising; Able to react proactively to various situations/scenarios, and where necessary, adapting the service provided to customers as a result; Assist Supervisors/Managers to ensure that the service/facility is fully-set up ready for opening for the day; Problem solving and decision making; Without reference to others; Easy to handle customer complaints and refunds to eliminate further problems; Weekly/daily storage and use of deliveries/stock in correct rotation; After consulting others; Difficult, escalated customer complaints; Issues with work colleagues; Supplier or equipment issues; Internal and external relationships; Communication with colleagues about menu items; Daily interaction with customers; Support casual staff to carry out their duties

With potential progression once in post to £18,415 a year. New staff are eligible to join the University’s new defined contribution pension scheme. Existing staff may continue to receive their current benefits. Additional Information 20 hrs for 30 weeks a year, 5 out of 7 contract, to be worked over shifts covering opening times between 7.00am-11.00pm including weekends and bank holidays & university closed days.
